Released: TFS Bug Item Synchronizer 2.2 for Quality Center

Next major version of popular TFS Bug Item Synchronizer for Quality Center is now released.

TFS Bug Item Synchronizer is an tool which allows testing and development teams to work together using tools built for their usage. Testers enter defects in Quality Center and when defect is created and updated into TFS, developer can fix it, link all changes to it and mark it as fixed. After this the tester will continue process on Quality Center side to verify the fix. Similar to this developer can create a work item and have it synchronized over to Quality Center for testers to verify the fix.

With this tool it is possible to synchronize both Quality Center Defects and Requirements with TFS work items.

Testers will only need to use Quality Center and developers TFS, no need to have both applications on both teams as this tool works totally on the server side.

TFS Bug Item Synchronizer 1.3 for Quality Center

Long waited new version of TFS Bug Item Synchronizer for Quality Center is getting closer.

We have published BETA version of it which is expected to be finalized in the the week or two.

Major new version in this release are following:

Support for synchronizing tree list type of fields
Copy attachments also from TFS to QC
Quality Center passwords are now encrypted in configuration files

When upgrading to this version, remember to read the TFS Bug Item Synchronizer Release Notes carefully as there are some mandatory steps to take after installation.

New version of TFS But Item Synchronizer is getting closer with hoped new features, which includes

Field value mappings between TFS and QC field values. This allows for example Severity fields be synchronized between these two systems without modifying default list values
Automatic lookup list synchronization between TFS and QC
TFS and QC project specific field settings
Field transition rules for QC defects which allows changing of other fields based on another field
Defragmenter and statistical utilities to see and fix internal database
Possibility to update Created By -field in TFS and Defected By -field in QC

These at least and some minor fixes and modifications are on the way.

This version is planned to be released in the next 2-3 weeks.

We are happy to announce, that next version of synchronizer between Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) bug items and Mercury Quality Center defects is now available.

What this does is

For every selected defect for synchronization in TestDirector / Quality Center, it creates matching bug item in TFS (with a http link to original defect)
For every selected bug item in TFS, it creates matching defect in TestDirector / Quality Center
For every defect updated in TestDirector / Quality Center, it updates matching bug item in TFS
For every update in TFS, it updates matching defect in TestDirector / Quality Center accordingly
Offers also possibility to link one TFS bug item into many TestDirector / Quality Center defects (inside same project or in different projects, does not really matter) and update all related TestDirector / Quality Center defects when TFS bug is updated

New added functionality is that you can create defects from TFS bug items and that you can have default values for fields as well.

All these actions are done on the background by this integration, tester does not need to have Team Foundation System Client installed nor developer any TestDirector / Quality Center components.
